Three people ejected off N4 bridge in horrific accident

A tragic accident on the N4 bridge resulted in three fatalities after two vehicles collided, ejecting victims from the back of a bakkie.

Three people were killed in a horrific accident on the N4 bridge near Rossouw Street on Thursday evening.

According to the Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit team (VEMRU) they responded to the scene just before 18:00.

The team was activated for a serious motor vehicle accident on the N4 close to Rossouw Street with instructions to enter into the Moreleta spruit.

“On our arrival, we found that three patients were ejected off the back of a bakkie, falling approximately 20 meters high off the bridge onto the river bank with one of the patients falling into the river after two vehicles collided and one vehicle hit the barriers.”

It said two of the patients showed no signs of life and were declared dead on arrival.

“The third patient sustained critical injuries, but despite the best efforts of the multiple emergency services personnel, they succumbed to their injuries before being transported.”

Two other people involved in the accident sustained minor injuries and received treatment on scene.

” SAPS water wing, Gauteng EMS Special Operations, and VEMRU assisted in recovering the body of the patient that landed in the river.”

VEMRU said the police took over the scene to investigate the cause of this tragic accident.

“A special thank you to Alpha Security Forum for providing cold drinks and water for the medical and rescue personnel on the scene. Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit (VEMRU) is a registered NPO and PBO that responds to medical and trauma emergencies for free.”
