Don’t waste water, north residents told following shutdown of Temba water treatment plant

The treatment plant was shut down due to a technical fault.

Tshwane is pleading with residents in the north of Pretoria to use water wisely.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo warned that should the residents not heed the call, a water supply interruption may occur in Pretoria’s northern parts.

The warning follows the metro’s Water and Sanitation Department temporarily shutting down the Temba Water Treatment Plant in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria on September 12.

Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the metro shut down the treatment plant that supplies water to Hammanskraal and surrounding areas following a technical fault at the plant.

“Tshwane’s team of technicians is currently on site attending to the fault, however, it is not yet clear as to when normal operations at the plant will resume.

“Unfortunately, this unplanned interruption is anticipated to negatively impact the water levels of the reservoirs supplied by the affected plant,” said Mashigo.

Mashigo said the levels are currently stable and the metro pleads with residents in the supply area to be prudent when using water.

He said should residents not heed the call, water supply interruption may occur in the following areas:

– Temba

– Hammanskraal

– Dilopye

– Majaneng

– Kudube Unit 7

– Sekampaneng

-Refentse

– Suurman

– Moretele Local Municipality.

“Residents will be kept updated as and when there are new developments.

“The city apologises for the inconvenience that may arise as a result of this unplanned interruption.”
