Power interruption on Sunday for parts of the Moot, East

Areas supplied by the Koedoespoort substation will be affected as the metro carries out refurbishment of a substation damaged by a fire.

The Tshwane metro is warning residents in the eastern parts of the Moot and western Silverton of power supply interruptions on Sunday.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said that the areas supplied by the Koedoespoort substation would be affected as the metro carried out refurbishments on the Pyramid substation.

Residents are expected to be affected from 09:00 to 16:00 on September 8.

Mashigo said to carry out the refurbishment work, supply from the the Pyramid substation to Koedoespoort would have to be switched off.

“This inevitable interruption of electricity supply is necessitated by the need to carry out refurbishment of the Pyramid substation following a fire that destroyed the 11kV switchgear and part of the building.

The scope of the work to be carried out includes the disconnection and removal of old electricity components which will be replaced by new ones,” he said.

Mashigo said that the following areas would be affected: Kilner Park, Moregloed, Waverley and Weavind Park, Queenswood (Blesbok substation) and the western part of Silverton.

He said residents should exercise caution while the work was being done.

“Due to system requirements and processes involved in carrying out this activity and in the interest of safety, all electrical appliances must always be treated as live (still on) during the supply interruption period.”

“Tshwane apologises for the inconvenience that may arise as a result of this planned work.”

Last weekend large parts of Pretoria east and the Moot were left without power due to the failure of high-voltage gas-insulated switchgear at Scientia Primary substation.

Power was diverted through the Pyramid substation while the metro attended to the switchgear at Scientia’s primary substation.
