Security escort shot dead in Pretoria

The guard was escorting a cigarette delivery vehicle on Wednesday afternoon when he was shot in the head.

A routine delivery turned tragic on Wednesday afternoon in Lotus Gardens, in the west of Pretoria, when a security guard was shot dead while escorting a cigarette delivery vehicle.

The incident left the local community in shock and mourning on September 4.

Cert-SA spokesperson Ruan Heyns said the Centurion crew received an urgent distress call regarding a security official who had been shot in the head.

“Responding swiftly, our emergency medical team arrived on the scene to find the brave security guard critically injured and seated in his vehicle.

“Our dedicated personnel initiated immediate life-saving measures to stabilise him.”

Heyns said recognising the severity of his condition, a medical helicopter was promptly summoned to airlift the patient to a level-one trauma facility for advanced care.

“Tragically, despite the best efforts of our emergency medical professionals, the security guard succumbed to his injuries before the helicopter could reach the scene.”

He said the fallen security guard was performing his duties escorting a cigarette delivery vehicle when the fatal incident happened.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.

“The support and dedication shown by the various teams involved are a testament to their unwavering commitment to public safety.”
