According to regional science fair director, Gail Ndlovu the aim of the expo is to inspire young minds to explore their passion in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation (STEMI).

She said by providing opportunities to develop their passion and enhance their knowledge, that the expo plays a crucial role in shaping future leaders in these fields.

Ndlovu also congratulated participants on their dedication to STEMI research and encouraged them to continue their journey in the competition.

“The top young scientists at the awards ceremony were honoured with prestigious Eskom Special Awards, while Regional Special Awards recognised the Best Junior Scientist, Best Senior Scientist, and schools that obtained the most gold medals.”

Ndlovu said the expo has made an impact on previously disadvantaged individuals in South Africa by breaking barriers and expanding access to STEM subjects.

She added that the expo empowers learners to overcome historical inequalities and contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s socio-economic development through innovation, research, and technological advancement.
