A teenager who went into cardiac arrest during a rugby game was airlifted on Tuesday evening. Here is more information.

Paramedics said a teenager who went into cardiac arrest during a rugby game was airlifted on Tuesday evening.

According to Xander Loubser from Best Care Emergency Medical Service, the incident happened at around 18:00 on Tuesday evening.

“We successfully responded to a critical incident involving a 16-year-old boy who suffered Sudden Cardiac Arrest during a rugby game at Naka Bulls Rugby Club.

“Our dedicated team, equipped with our unique Advanced Life Support and Cardiac Unit, performed life-saving interventions in accordance with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) protocols.”

Loubser said due to the swift actions of our paramedics and the immediate response from bystanders, they were able to revive the patient.

Netcare911 HEMS subsequently airlifted the boy to a facility equipped for further critical care.

According to Loubser, hospitals in the near vicinity were unable to assist with the admission of the boy to the ICU.

“We would like to take a moment to pray for the family during this challenging time. The presence of our two Best Care ambulances and the strong dynamics within our team were instrumental in managing this emergency effectively.”

He furthermore said this incident highlights the vital importance of bystander CPR, as immediate action can significantly increase the chances of survival in cardiac arrest situations.

“We encourage everyone to learn CPR and be prepared to act in emergencies.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our team and the community for their quick response in this life-saving effort. Together, we can make a difference.”
