Tiaan Massyn releases new single

Looking ahead, he plans to release a new dance track in time for the summer, something different to the more serious tone of Gunsteling Spyt.

Reigning Mr South Africa and Centurion-based optometrist Tiaan Massyn has released his latest single, Gunsteling Spyt.

The pop ballad written by Ernes Smit explores the emotional turmoil of an unhealthy romantic relationship and the struggle between love and self-respect.

Massyn is resident of Eldoraigne, and was crowned Mr South Africa 2023 at the Vodacom Dome in November.

He is well-known in the Centurion community, both for his musical talents and work as an optometrist.

This versatile 30-year-old, who already has a busy schedule as the current Mr South Africa, is back in the spotlight with a brand-new single guaranteed to touch hearts.

“Relationships that fall apart can leave lasting scars,” said Massyn.

“The song was born of the pain and disruption we have all experienced when something like this happens to us.”

He describes the lyrics as raw and honest, tackling relationships that despite being unhealthy, are as hard to break as addiction.

“I think many people will relate to it because I believe most of us have been in similar situations where we had to learn, heal, and move on.”

The single was released alongside a music video on last Friday.

The video was directed by Zander de Beer of Winter Trail Pictures, and features recognisable locations such as the Atterbury Theatre in Lynnwood. The video tells the story of a woman coming to terms with the end of a once-promising relationship, as she packs up her life and says goodbye to a shared future, while Massyn performs the song with passion.

“There is a lot of loss at the end of a relationship.

“A life was built together, and the footage illustrates how in scenarios like these, you have to pack up, say goodbye, heal, and start over,” Massyn said.

This is his third single, following Die Son Kom Op and his rendition of Johnny Clegg’s The Crossing, both of which received airtime on several major radio stations.

Despite his busy schedule as an optometrist and his duties as Mr South Africa, Massyn continues to pursue his passion for music.

Looking ahead, he plans to release a new dance track in time for the summer, something different to the more serious tone of Gunsteling Spyt.

“I hope this song will also bring comfort and encouragement to anyone who is at the end of a relationship and has a lot of pain to process,” he said.
