Suspect arrested after woman’s body found inside stolen car in Pretoria East

The suspect faces charges of murder, kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and the possession of suspected stolen property.

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in Moreleta Park in the East of Pretoria after he was found in possession of a stolen Range Rover which contained the dead body of the vehicle’s owner in the boot.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle was stolen in Mpumalanga on Friday evening.

According to Masondo, “the victim is believed to have been killed during a house robbery in Standerton, Mpumalanga Province, on Friday evening.”

“The suspect allegedly ransacked the house before killing the victim, putting her in her Range Rover and driving off with it.”

Masondo said it was reported that an official from a vehicle tracking company was tracing the victim’s car, when he found it at a petrol station in Moreleta Park in the early hours of Saturday, 24 August.

“While searching the car and the suspect who was driving the car, the body of a female was discovered in the car along with suspected stolen items, including laptops, cellphones, and jewellery. The deceased’s bank cards were also recovered.”

Masondo said two firearms and one replica firearm were also found inside the car.

“Police were called to the scene and arrested the suspect. He was charged with murder, kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and possession of suspected stolen property.”

The suspect is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 August.
