Centurion commuters took it to the sky at Fly-In Festival

SA Model Aircraft Association hosted a Fly-In Festival at Irene Radio Flyers on August 17 where they provided exciting entertainment and a variety of model aircraft.

SA Model Aircraft Association Bob Skinner, General Manager said this was to showcase model aviation to the public of Pretoria, Centurion, and northern towns in the Pretoria/Witwatersrand regions.

He said they estimated that 400 people would be visiting, and 200 cars entered the premises, and if one takes an average of 3 persons, per vehicle, the assumption is that 600+ people attended.

“We had enthusiastic support from 25 market and food vendors, and hobby dealers who joined us for an exciting day of entertainment.

The event started with their arrival at 05:00 of club members, staff, and organisers, who directed drivers of food trailers to designated spots.

Pilots arrived in the next two hours with a splendid variety of large, small, and unusual model aircraft, unpacking, assembling, and checking equipment.”

The attendees enjoyed jets and helicopters rides, aerobatics, drone racing, pylon racing and many more.

Skinner said every aspect of the Fly-in was a highlight, with participants flying scale-type aircraft, replicas of full-size aircraft but in miniature, with infinite details and craftsmanship
