Three suspects arrested for possession of illegal firearm in Jukulyn

Police make arrests after a series of armed and house break-ins in Jukulyn.

Police arrested three suspects for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Jukulyn, north of Pretoria on Monday, July 22.

According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Johan Van Dyk, the community of Jukulyn has been terrorised by armed robberies and house invasions over the past few weeks.

Van Dyk said detectives and uniformed members worked tirelessly to gather information and identify the suspects.

“A breakthrough was finally made thanks to information received from the community.”

He said an intelligence-driven takedown operation was rolled out to track and trace the suspects.

Van Dyk said once their whereabouts were discovered, uniformed members and detectives surrounded the house in Kromkuil Baloyi stand.

According to Van Dyk members tactically entered the house and neutralised the two suspects.

“Upon searching the house, only a toy gun was found. However, during interrogation, the suspects revealed that the real firearm was in block X with another person,” he said.

Van Dyk said the team proceeded to the address provided by the suspects.

He said that when officers arrived at the house, they found a third suspect.

“A search of the premises revealed the firearm hidden in a car,” said Van Dyk.

“The three suspects were arrested for house robberies, armed robberies, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

Van Dyk said investigation is continuing to determine if the suspects can be linked to crimes.

He said the recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain whether it has been used in criminal activities.
