Tshwane call centre experiences limited system

The City of Tshwane said it's Call Centre has limited systems on Friday. Here are alternative ways to contact them.

The City of Tshwane Call Centre is currently experiencing limited systems.

According to spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, the limited systems are due to unsteady internet functionality.

“The city would like to apologise to customers who cannot reach our Call Centre no. 012 358 -9999 and all our official email addresses.”

Here are some alternative ways to contact the City of Tshwane:

1. www.e-tshwane.co.za to log service requests, capture meter readings and view accounts.
2. WhatsApp line: 0871531001 to view accounts, submit readings and other services.
3. Power failures can be reported by sending an SMS with the word POWER followed by account number to 082 612 0333 or 44676.

Mashigo said the city will keep customers updated on any developments.

According to Ward Councillor Jarad Frimmel, the worldwide disruption affecting Microsoft and CrowdStrike servers also impacts several internal and external services, including purchasing prepaid electricity.

He said both the City of Tshwane’s Data Centres are unreachable.

“FNB and Standard Bank customers cannot buy prepaid tokens because the system is offline.”

Frimmel added that customers have reported issues at Spar and Checkers.

“CrowdStrike has identified the root cause of the Falcon Sensor, which is causing crashes in Windows hosts.”

He said technicians are working with Microsoft and CrowdStrike to implement an interim solution.

“CrowdStrike has issued a temporary solution to mitigate the issue while working on a permanent fix. A Teams call is being set up to update and provide steps for remediation.”

By Friday afternoon, he said the services were gradually returning online, though there may be some backlog due to high traffic.

Meanwhile, in other news, Pretoria residents should take note that Capitec suffered a major nationwide outage, crippling all its customer-facing services.

Hundreds of customers on X/Twitter complained about declined transactions, ATM services not working, and the mobile banking app inaccessible.

Capitec posted on X, saying they are resolving the matter as soon as possible.

“Due to an unexpected issue with an international service provider, we are currently experiencing nationwide service disruptions. Note: Card payments & Capitec ATMs are working & your account remains secure. We apologise for the inconvenience.

The hashtag #captiec was also trending on X as frustrated customers shared their experiences.

Outage tracking website Downdetector showed a big surge in reports of issues with Capitec’s services from around 07:00.

The bank also sent an SMS to some customers, informing them it was aware of the issues.
