Action taken against hijacked house in Waterkloof Ridge, after numerous complaints

According to the MMC of community safety over 20 undocumented foreigners living in shacks and rooms on the premises.

In a decisive move to uphold community safety and by-law enforcement, the Tshwane Metro took action against a hijacked residential property in Waterkloof Ridge recently.

MMC for Community Safety Grandi Theunissen said he spearheaded an investigation into the property following numerous complaints regarding illegal activities, unsanitary conditions, and a severe rat infestation.

Theunissen said during a thorough inspection, Tshwane officials and the TMPD discovered over 20 undocumented foreigners living in shacks and rooms on the premises, paying R1 000 per month in rent.

“The property, cluttered with various materials, posed significant health and safety risks to both the occupants and the surrounding community.

“Additionally, officials confirmed an outstanding debt of R1.3 million associated with the property,” said the MMC.

The illegal occupation of buildings threatens not only the safety of the occupants but also the well-being of the entire community.

He said fire hazards, public health concerns, and the degradation of living conditions underscore the importance of such interventions.

Theunissen commended the diligence and hard work of all officials involved in addressing this pressing issue.

“This operation is a testament to the coalition government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all residents in Tshwane.

“We will not tolerate lawlessness, and we urge the community to continue supporting our efforts by reporting by-law transgressions,” said the MMC.

Residents are encouraged to report any by-law violations to the TMPD at 012 358 7095/7096 or via email at tmpdcomplaints@tshwane.gov.za.

In a separate incident, Complete Security Intelligence (CSI) apprehended four suspects who broke in at a residence in Lynnwood Glen in the east of Pretoria in the early hours of July 10.

According to Dana Bloem, spokesperson for CSI, the immediate response by their unarmed security personnel led to the arrest.

“CSI Control received an alarm where they phoned the client and it was confirmed a positive break-in,” said Bloem.

During the search of the premises, no suspects were initially found.

However, four suspects were spotted fleeing towards the Shell Garage on Glenwood Road.

A swift chase ensued, involving CSI officers and Interactive Security, which led to the apprehension of three suspects.

“Hidden under a truck at the garage, several stolen items were recovered, including a flat-screen television, two laptops, two Bluetooth speakers, a tablet, a generator, a compressor, a lighter, and a bag full of alcohol.

“This incident underscores the effectiveness of swift action and collaboration between security forces in combating crime,” said Bloem.

The suspects were handed over to Brooklyn police.
