UPDATE: Two drivers arrested after crash that claimed elderly woman’s life

"Police are investigating a case of drunk driving and culpable homicide," says Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.

Police have arrested two drivers involved in a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Solomon Mahlangu Drive on July 7.

The accident involved three vehicles that collided at high speed, which resulted in the death of one person and minor injuries to two others.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said that police are investigating a case of drunk driving and culpable homicide.

“One passenger passed away and the other two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

The Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit (Vemru) team responded to a call about the accident and found that three motor vehicles had collided at high speed.

Vemru spokesperson Casper Visser said that the team extracted an elderly woman, who showed no signs of life and declared her dead on the scene.

He added that the two men sustained minor injuries.
