Investigation into murder of 87-year-old Gezina man continues

A Life Guard Security officer discovered the grisly scene of the murder while conducting a welfare check at the elderly man's residence.

The investigation into the tragic murder of an 87-year-old man in Gezina, Moot, is still ongoing.

Police said law enforcement authorities were still investigating a case of murder.

Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the police were diligently following all leads, however despite extensive efforts, no arrest had been made yet.

“We are still investigating the case and can confirm that it was indeed murder. However, no arrest has been made yet,” Van Dyk said.

The investigation comes as on Saturday, June 15, at 13:55, Kobus Olivier from Life Guard Security discovered the grisly scene of the murder while conducting a welfare check at the man’s residence.

“Our Lifeguard Priority Crimes Unit received information from Apiesrivier-Noord Gemeenskap Forum about the abandoned vehicle. The unit then got the vehicle owner’s address in the Moot area,” said Olivier.

The check was initiated after a blue Audi A4, linked to the residence, was found abandoned on a road in Pretoria North.

Upon arriving at the residence, the officer noticed the back door partially open.

After announcing his presence and receiving no response, he entered the house.

Inside, he discovered the body of the elderly man in the main bedroom.

Olivier immediately exited the premises, contacted the South African Police Service (SAPS) and secured the scene to preserve any potential evidence.

Crime scene experts processed both the residence and the location where the vehicle was found, searching for clues and leads.

Van Dyk said the SAPS is appealing to the public for any information that could assist in solving this crime.

“We urge anyone with information related to this case to come forward,” van Dyk said.
