Sleeping girls (4 and 7) burnt to death: Suspect remanded in custody facing murder, arson, and being in the country illegally
The Gauteng police have also offered a R100 000 reward to anyone who can assist with information that can lead to the arrest of another individual alleged to be responsible for the murder of four people, including the two girls aged 4 and 7.
A 35-year-old suspect in the murder of two young girls (4 and 7) had his case postponed to June 19 after appearing in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, June 12.
The suspect is facing a charge of murder, five counts of attempted murder, two counts of arson and being illegally in the country.
Police arrested the suspect in Akasia, north of Pretoria on Sunday, June 9.
According to National Prosecuting Authority Regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the suspect was remanded in custody. His case was postponed to June 19 for bail investigations and a legal representative.
“It is alleged that on June 2, the man together with his accomplice who has not been apprehended went to a tavern in Akasia and the homes of Moshate forum members and their relatives and started shooting at them.
“After the two set the tavern and the complainant’s house alight,” said Mahanjana.
Mahanjana said a woman who was at the tavern was shot and died on the scene.
“Five other people were injured and are still in hospital.”
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the police recovered a vehicle that was allegedly used during the commission of this crime.
Masondo said more suspects might be arrested in this case, pending further investigation.
“The assigned team of detectives has been working diligently to apprehend the suspects behind the heinous crime.
The search for other suspects is continuing,” said Masondo.
Tinyiko (7) and Mpfumo (4) Mashaba, were burned to death on Sunday, June 2 around 19:30 when unknown suspects ran amok in the informal settlement.

Masondo said the suspect would face charges of attempted murder and arson.
“It is believed that Dennis Nyatsunga/Ngobeni also known as “Shumba” is originally from Mozambique.
“He might still be in South Africa and is said to be using a fraudulent passport and asylum seeker papers,” said Masondo.
Masondo said the wanted suspect is short and dark in complexion.
“The public is advised not to attempt to apprehend the suspect, because he is considered armed and very dangerous.”
