Help deter crime by using Mamelodi suggestion box

The public can report anything from wanted suspects to crime hotspots, missing persons, or corrupt police officials.

The Mamelodi police have called on the locals to use the suggestion box to help fight crime in the area.

Station commander Kervin Solomons said the box was for tips for fighting crime and improvements the police could make to better serve the public, “or residents could even drop in complaints”.

He said the suggestion box is a platform for the community to share information, opinions, or experiences with police at the station.

“This will help the station management improve the service of the police station, extending better communication between the community and police,” said Solomons.

The public can report anything from wanted suspects to crime hotspots, missing persons, or corrupt police officials.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Daphney Maila, added that the suggestion box is at the station’s client service centre entrance, as well as survey forms the public can fill out.

She said the suggestion box will help police in their duties by providing information on criminal activities within the community.

“The suggestion box can be used to report crime anonymously; for suggestions where the management needs improvement, the public can also leave their contact details for the management to respond to or get hold of them,” said Maila.

She said information about suspected criminal undertakings could lead to arrests.

Maila added that police could not root out crime alone and needed the input of the public.

She said the suggestion box would be emptied every Monday and the information therein processed.

Most importantly, the box would build a good relationship between the police and the public, she added.

Solomons further said a tipster who wished to remain anonymous could drop a note without their name, while those who wanted to be contacted could always leave their details as well.

“For good measure, residents could use the box to compliment our good work,” he said.

The police advised the public to report any suspicious person to the police on 08600 10111.
