Service delivery protest in Pretoria West – Avoid the area

The TMPD said residents in Pretoria West are protesting about service delivery in the area. Here are the streets to avoid.

Several roads have been blocked, and tires were burned as residents in Pretoria West are protesting about service delivery in the area. 

While the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) said a protest over service delivery would take place on Wednesday morning at 11:00, it started before 07:00. 

In an update, the TMPD said there is protest action in Pretoria West at WF Nkomo Street between Mohiri and Acridian Streets. 

“The road is partially opened. TMPD and SAPS are at the scene.” 

A peaceful march was planned to start at 11:00 at Princess Park by Ephraim Mogale Ward 12 Development Forum.

It was expected that they would hand over the memorandum at two places. From Princess Park, they will move to the Department of Water and Sanitation at 178 Francis Baard Street and proceed to the Department of Public Works at 176 Bosman Street. 

The route of the march is as follows:

“From the gathering point, they will join Francis Baard and stop at the Department of Water and Sanitation. From the Department of Water and Sanitation, the marchers will turn right onto Bosman Street and proceed to the Department of Public Works, where they are expected to disperse at 14:45.” 

The following streets will be affected: 

  • Francis Baard Street 
  • Bosman Street
  • Sophie de Bruyn Street 
  • Princess Park Avenue 
  • Kgosi Mampuru Street 
  • Volkstem Avenue 

“The TMPD and SAPS will be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets.” 

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to use alternative routes: 

  • Madiba Street
  • Nana Sita Street 
  • Pretorius Street
  • Struben Street 
  • Eskia Mphahlele Street
