Pretoria singer severely injured after falling into campfire

A Pretoria singer recently shared in an emotional Facebook video how he was severely injured after he fell into the campfire.

Du Preez Van Heerden, a salesman and local singer, says he can still feel the painful flames on his skin three weeks after the incident.

In one of the videos, he said they were having a good time and made a big campfire.

“At one point, I stood with my back to the fire and was talking to someone. I took a step backward and stumbled over the brick, and fell into the fire.”

Du Preez struggled to get out of the fire, but his clothes were already on fire.

“I was a ball of flames. My friends pulled me out of the fire and threw me into the swimming pool.”

Du Preez sustained burns on his entire back, arms, chest, and buttocks.

He treated his wounds himself for five days but then realized it wasn’t getting better and went to the hospital.

Medical staff informed him that he had suffered second and third-degree burns over about 30% of his body.

He said he was in a lot of pain and was waiting to go to the operating room so doctors could remove the dead tissue. He is currently in the Kalafong hospital.
