Tshwane workers recovering well after accident

They were struck by a private vehicle on March 10, while trying to repair a power failure in Pretoria Gardens.

The two metro workers involved in an accident in Pretoria Gardens last weekend are recovering well.

One was discharged from Unitas Hospital earlier this week.

The two were struck by a private vehicle in Schurmanns Avenue on March 10, while responding to a power failure – a result of a storm that had earlier hit the area.

Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said: “A private vehicle drove past a municipal cherry picker truck and hit the municipal light duty vehicle head-on. Both the municipal vehicles had just arrived and were stationary, preparing to attend to the power outage. The vehicle rolled over the officials.”

The two, one from Hammanskraal and the other from Atteridgeville, were rushed to Unitas hospital.

The metro confirmed that the latter has since been discharged.

“As the ward councillor, I would like to wish them both a speedy recovery from all the citizens of ward 1 whom they were busy helping when this tragedy happened,” said Ward 1 councillor, Leon Kruyshaar.
