Akasia police attend to the call for a spiritual intervention

Akasia recently came under the spotlight as serious crimes such as rape, assault, ATM bombings, business and armed robbery plagued the area.

The church in the Akasia policing precinct hosted the service to appreciate law enforcement officers and pray for them in their continued fight against crime.

The Tshwane metro police, National Traffic Police, the CPF, Community in Blue and crime prevention wardens also attended.

CPF Sector 2 chairperson Quinton Painter urged church members to be part of the projects initiated by the CPF.

Welfare treasurer and church event organiser Puleng Serondu said the event was a success as more than 70 law enforcement officers attended the service.

“We decided to invite them and appreciate them for the service that they give to the community.

“We’re not only appreciating law enforcement officers, but also the teachers, nurses and pensioners.

“The church service is for showing love to them for risking their lives to protect us while we are sleeping,” said Serondu.

According to Painter, the CPF is prepared to work hand in glove with the church.

“We want to work together with the church to address social issues such as gender-based violence, drugs, abuse, and substance abuse,” said Painter.

According to the latest crime statistics released by Police Minister Bheki Cele, Akasia made the list of the top 30 police stations aggravated by serious crime nationally.

The statistics showed that Akasia police station recorded a shocking 68.8% increase in rapes during the January to March 2023 period, with 27 rape cases compared to 16 in the January to March 2022 period, but showed a remarkable 90% drop in illegal firearms.

Constable Lindiwe Mabasa of Akasia police said the station is prepared to work with the church to restore lawfulness in the community.

“We want to work with the church through community-driven projects and campaigns.

“Church is a moral building foundation and the police welcome such initiatives by the church to take time in appreciating and boosting the morale of the police while fulfilling their jobs to instil lawfulness,” said Mabasa.
