New Mamelodi clinic expected to be completed by end of May
MMC of Health Rina Marx has stressed to the main contractor and project management teams that further delays are unacceptable.
The new Lusaka clinic in Mamelodi is expected to be completed by the end of May, according to MMC for Health Rina Marx.
When Marx undertook an oversight visit accompanied by senior officials from the health department on Monday, she said the revised timeline for completion of the project is the end of May.
“Since September 2023, construction has been negatively impacted by contractual disputes and challenges between the main contractor and subcontractors,” she said.
Following intervention by the health department, she said she was pleased to report that work had resumed this week.
“I used the opportunity to stress to representatives from the main contractor and project management teams that further delays are unacceptable,” said Marx.
She said the health department has put several intervention measures in place to ensure that the project is finalised.
“One such intervention is a recovery plan with weekly milestones for the main contractor,” she added.
She will be undertaking site visits every two weeks as part of the commitment to ensure that the project is concluded successfully.
“I communicated my expectation to see tangible progress according to the recovery plan timelines,” Marx said.
Once completed, the clinic will be a flagship project for the City and the residents of Mamelodi.
The facility will have 21 consulting rooms which will include chronic, acute and mother-and-child sections.
There also will be a full dispensary and emergency room, and all auxiliary functions will be provided.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mamelodi residents for their patience.”
Marx said she is certain that once completed, the new Lusaka Clinic will be a welcome addition to the 24 primary healthcare clinics managed by the City.
“All our clinics retained their ideal clinic (platinum) status last year,” she added.
