Metro warns residents of bogus vacancy

Residents are urged to be vigilant and not to pay for a job application.

Tshwane metro has warned the public not to fall for a bogus invitation to an interview for an admin clerk vacancy in the city.

The metro said it had been notified about a bogus vacancy interview notice circulating on social media.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the public is warned not to fall for this scam.

“According to the notice, the applicants are invited to interviews tomorrow, January 11 at 10:30.”

The notice reads as follows:

INVITATION TO AN INTERVIEW

Dear applicant, we would like to invite you to come and attend an interview.

POSITION: ADMIN CLERK

DATE: 11/01/2024

VENUE: CITY OF TSHWANE METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY

TIME: 10:30

NB: Please call your HR co-ordinator MR SHIBURE at 068 869 7768 to confirm your booking today not later than today.

Kind regards City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality HRD.

Mashigo said the advertisement is devoid of any truth, as the city only advertises its vacant posts in newspapers and on the job forum page on its website: www.tshwane.gov.za.

“We urge the public to ignore the said advertisement, as it is a scam. The city continues to be dismayed at the scammers who prey on the emotions of unsuspecting jobseekers by manufacturing information about the existence of job vacancies,” said Mashigo.

He said the city suspects the scammers aim to con vulnerable people who are desperate for jobs.

“We wish to warn those who are peddling such false information that they will be arrested, charged and prosecuted as their actions border on criminality.”

He said the metro requests the public to contact the Tshwane metro police on 083 657 2998 whenever they come across such “job advertisements” that are issued outside the norms and procedures of its processes.

“We also urge the public to be always vigilant of fraudulent activities and not to pay for a job application.”
