Man nabbed in connection with R440 000 e-Bike theft
The suspect had gone to purchase accessories for an e-Bike and the owner of the shop immediately alerted the police and the security company.
Bull Security in collaboration with NIU Crime Intelligence and the police have arrested a man on suspicion of the theft of e-bikes valued at R440 000 in Erasmuskloof.
According to Bull Security, the man is believed to be a member of a bicycle syndicate.
“On Friday morning, information was received about a person wanting to purchase accessories for an e-bike from the bike shop at Wolwespruit, Erasmuskloof,” read the Bull Security statement.
The suspicious owner, who had earlier been a victim of a business robbery, immediately alerted the police.
Bull Security said all units got together and responded swiftly.
“The suspect was arrested on the scene, and led the units to an address in Serengeti Estate, where the e-bikes were recovered,” it said.
The property was confirmed to belong to the man and he could not give satisfactory explanation of where he got the bikes from.
Police seized the e-bikes and handed them back to the owner who had identified them as his.
Cyclists have been urged to take extra precautions as it is feared that criminals target e-bikes.
Cyclist Freddy Strydom (57) was recently left fighting for his life after he was brutally stabbed in the back by criminals who stole his e-bike.
Strydom was cycling with a group of 12 others when he was attacked between the R21 and M18.
On November 11, another cyclist was attacked on Main Road in Irene, while crossing the river.
