Severe thunderstorms expected in Tshwane

Residents are urged to brace themselves for localised flooding.

Tshwane residents were warned of a possible severe thunderstorm to hit them on Friday afternoon.

The South African Weather Services issued a level 2 warning for the capital which was expected from 13:00 until 21:00.

 

Friday’s thunderstorms are expected to have localised flooding of susceptible low-lying areas.

According to the weather service, temperatures are expected to be from 30°C to 18°C with a 30% chance of rain.

 

Friday’s rain amount is expected to be at 20mm with a 60% chance of rain expected, with a wind speed of 0.1 knots travelling at 9km/h to a maximum of 5 knots.

Last week Pretorians enjoyed a finer week as residents enjoyed a comfortable humidity with an average humidity of 59%, ranging from 34% to a maximum value of 94%.

The weather service said the yellow level 2 warnings come with severe damaging winds and hail expected over the Free State, extreme eastern parts of Northern Cape, central and western parts of the North West, and southern KwaZulu-Natal.

The warning is also issued over the northern and eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.
