Jazz dance maestro passes away

Legendary Bra Chicco from Mamelodi dies after a long illness.

One of the legendary jazz dancers has passed away.

Samuel Chicco Mashiane (74) of Mamelodi East section D 12, Mexico City died last Sunday after a long illness.

Mashiane was known as Bra Chicco to many residents in Mamelodi and fellow jazz club members around Tshwane.

Shadow Seale, a friend, described Bra Chicco as a loving person who really loved jazz music and a good caring man.

He developed a love for jazz music at the age of 13.

“Bra Chicco was also a lover of the finer things in life and always dressed well,” said Seale.

He was called Bra Chicco after Chicco Hamilton because he used to love his music and his favourite album was Man from two worlds.

Seale, on behalf of all jazz clubs in Tshwane, said Chicco was a brother, supporter and friend to all the jazz clubs in Tshwane.

“He was an entertainer by nature and would not fight with anyone but only expressed his feelings through his jazz music.”

Bra Chicco will be missed dearly by his family, friends, brother, two sisters and jazz club members around Tshwane.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday at Heatherly cemetery near Nellmapius.

The service will start at house no: 12791 Masemola Street, Section D 23 known as Mexico City at 07:00.
