Tuks RAG alumni gather for reunion

The reunion sought to rekindle the clarion call of RAG (Raise And Give), an initiative that was first started in 1927.

Members of the University of Pretoria (Tukkies) alumni from 1984 to 1990 attended a successful reunion of the “Jool” or RAG (Raise And Give) committee in Pretoria recently.

The reunion weekend was held at Riverside Kaia Lodge in the Donkerhoek area.

The aim was to rekindle the clarion call of RAG or, as the saying went in those days, Jool: Jou Onbaatsugtige Opoffering vir Liefdadigheid (RAG: Your Selfless Sacrifice for Charity).

Not only was it a great opportunity to reminisce and solidify friendships but also to raise a substantial amount for charity.

The rattle of coin-filled cans and the blare of marching bands, which started almost a century ago, may not fill the streets of Pretoria anymore, but RAG still lives on in the hearts of those who were in attendance.

All previous members who served through the years on the UP Central RAG Committee, founded in 1927, are encouraged to send their contact details to UPSJK80s@gmail.com.

Who knows when the next opportunity to spread cheer and goodwill through the exuberance and attitudes nurtured in the past might arise again?
