Student pilot injured in plane crash

The woman sustained minor injuries during the crash.

A student pilot sustained injuries after crash-landing at the Wonderboom airport this morning.

Pro Med spokesperson Michael Gough said the service was alerted to the incident by the airport fire brigade at 10:40 and later treated the pilot for minor injuries.

“It is alleged that the 22-year-old woman touched down on the runway and a sidewind flipped the aircraft.”

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson, Charles Mabaso confirmed that a small Cessna aircraft crash-landed.

“Airport rescue and private ambulances were on the scene.

“The cause of the crash will be investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority.”

Last August, Rekord reported that a plane crashed on the eastern side of Wonderboom airport near the N4.

That particular crash was later attributed to engine failure.

The Piper Cherokee 173 reportedly experienced engine failure after takeoff.
