Work to restore power supply in the north continues

No injuries or fatalities were been reported during the storm on September 12, but power supply was severely affected to several areas.

Work to restore the power supply to ward 2 in the north is ongoing.

A storm on September 12 caused extensive damage to the electricity infrastructure, uprooting trees and ripping off overhead powerlines cutting supply to the area.

Local councillor Yolanda Duvenage said the following areas were still without electricity:

– Abercrombie/Erich Mayer/Ralph/Berg
– Broodryk/Bakenkloof/Wonderboom/Pagel
– Jopie Fourie/Horn/Deetlefs
– Jan van Riebeeck/Danie Theron
– Emily Hobhouse
– Jack Hindon
– Angelica
– Eeufees

Duvenage said she reported the outage and was awaiting confirmation that repair workers had come to attend to the problem.

Rekord previously reported that 10 trees fell across roads in the area, blocking traffic during the storm.

City electricians started working on repairs but it was unclear when supply would be restored, due to the extensive work required.

Duvenage said EMS has been working tirelessly to clear the debris and restore power.
