Water outages experienced across Pretoria suburbs

“It is important for the customers to adhere to this clarion call to avoid the system from being strained and ultimately resulting in a water outage.”

The Tshwane Municipality is currently experiencing extremely low water levels.

“These low levels would affect reservoirs such as Mooikloof,” said the metro’s spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.

Mashigo said a team of experienced technicians, both from the City and Rand Water, was assessing the situation on site and trying to come up with a permanent solution.

“Similarly, the city, in conjunction with the engineers from the water utility, is working on improving the supply to Klapperkop and Carina Street reservoirs, which are struggling to maintain satisfactory levels.

“The abovementioned reservoirs supply Muckleneuk, Sunnyside, Arcadia, and parts of Waterkloof Ridge.”

Mashigo urged residents in affected areas to use water sparingly, as the metro’s network was severely strained across the capital.

“It is important for customers to adhere to this clarion call to avoid the system from being strained and ultimately, resulting in a water outage.”

On Monday, ward 59 councillor Shaun Wilkinson announced that the water levels at Klapperkop Reservoir were dangerously low, adding that water would be diverted from Carina Reservoir.

Communication was once again issued on Monday evening, warning residents of the Salvokop Reservoir zone of a shutdown to repair a water leakage.

“The water supply will be reinstated as soon as possible after the repairs have been completed,” the metro said.
