The Club hosts Streetside market
From food to live music, crafts, bars, desserts, clothing, and a kids' play area it was a challenge to find a stall without a crowd.
Locals flocked to the streets of Hazelwood to enjoy the Club Streetside market this July 13.
The cold weather and load-shedding didn’t stop residents from enjoying all the nearly five-year-old market had to offer.
Organiser Keegan Bekker says the purpose of the market is to give a platform to unique small businesses while giving the public access to a shopping experience not quite like any other.
“We wanted to create an environment that you can’t find anywhere else. While typically malls and shopping complexes give a holistic approach, this is a more niche take,” Bekker says.
From food to live music, crafts, bars, desserts, clothing, and a kids’ play area it was a challenge to find a stall without a crowd.
The organisers of the market include Atterbury Property (landlord), Emerge Marketing and the Old East Precinct which includes: The Club, The Village and Village Walk (opening later in 2023).
“The idea was to activate the Old East Precinct, linking The Club and The Village, bringing everyone together and really highlight all The Club has to offer,” says Emerge portfolio manager, Isabell Swanepoel.
“It’s really special, especially in Pretoria, I don’t we have a lot of venues that are street-based.”
Since the first market in 2018, The Club Streetside Market has grown despite the Covid-19 setback. Organisers expressed their gratitude to the metro, SAPS, and TMPD for allowing them the space.
A special thanks was also given to Audiotorch for the live performances by Bad Peter & Pieter Marcato.
Keegan says the market looks to expand to the west side of Pretoria and Johannesburg eventually.
“It’s a good way for everyone to come enjoy something unique and it’s nice to support local businesses trying to get their feet going,” Emerge, marketing manager, Caitlin De Jong concluded.
