‘Non-receipt of bill statement does not exempt customers’
Residents have been urged to keep paying their municipal accounts even if they didn't receive statements from the Tshwane metro.
The Tshwane metro has warned residents that non-receipt of municipal account statements did not mean they were exempted from paying money owed on their bills.
Tshwane finance MMC Mare-Lise Fourie said the metro was currently sitting on 10 953 undelivered account statements for July 2021.
She said due to these figures, the Tshwane metro was encouraging customers to keep their contact details updated to receive account statements.
“The Tshwane metro has noted with concern the number of undelivered account statements to customers.”
Fourie said the metro acknowledged that some customers still preferred the traditional way of receiving their account statements via post.
“To accommodate this, the metro would like to encourage customers to ensure that their contact details with the metro are correct and updated.”
She said when an account statement failed to reach the customer, the account holder would not be in the loop over the amount due and this meant the customer had to physically go to the nearest walk-in centre to request the payable amount.

“Customers are reminded that non-receipt of an account statement does not exempt them from paying their municipal accounts.
“The metro would like to further encourage customers to register and make use of the e-Tshwane platform. This platform can be used to view your account statement as soon as it becomes available.”
She said through the website, payments could be made via e-Tshwane (www.etshwane.co.za), ABSA, Standard Bank, Nedbank, FNB and Capitec – at a branch or via EFT, at municipal pay points at customer walk-in centres, Shoprite, Checkers and Easy Pay outlets nationwide.
