Cansa hosts free cancer screening

“Early cancer detection is very important, it saves lives,” Cansa Relay for Life committee said.

The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) urged interested community members to have cancer screening at their 90 year birthday bash at Menlyn Park mall, in the east of Pretoria.

The event, scheduled to take place this Saturday from 09:00 to 13:00, will offer residents the opportunity to have a prostate-specific antigen finger prick and “fotofinder” skin tests for free.

“Early cancer detection is very important, it saves lives,” Cansa Relay for Life committee spokesperson, Thea Silva, said.

Silva said the committee invited cancer survivors and the general public to join them in celebrating 90 years of caring, supporting and educating.

“Attendance will also enjoy coin-laying and to spray or shave their hair.”

The birthday bash will be celebrated under the theme “hope”.

“We delayed announcing the birthday bash until its venue was confirmed.”

The latest developments suggest that the Relay for Life has now been divided into four separate ceremonies consisting of celebration, remembrance, fight back and hope.

Silva said they divided the Relay for Life events into various sections to accommodate Covid-19 lockdown regulations.
