Cansa ready to host Christmas market in Moot

Attendees will be treated to entertainment and can buy festive crafts and gifts, local produce, food and drinks at the Cansa Christmas Market.

The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is gearing up to host their Christmas market fund raising event at the end of the month at their Pretoria Care centre in Rietfontein.

The organisation invites residents to attend the event scheduled to take place on 28 November.

“We have all measures in place to make sure the Covid-19 lockdown regulations are adhered to at during the event,” CANSA fundraiser Thea Silva said.

Silva said the event, aimed at raising the money to host the CANSA Relay for Life occasion, would take place the entire day.

“This would prevent congestion at the event and allow people to easily comply with the social distancing rule as people would come and go throughout the day,” she said.

She then explained that the CANSA Relay for Life, scheduled to take place at the Menlyn shopping centre from 27-28 March 2021, would be the combination of both the CANSA Relay for Life Pretoria and the CANSA Relay for Life Corporate.

With regards to the Christmas market, attendees will be treated to entertainment and can buy from various stalls selling, among others, festive crafts and gifts, local produce, food and drinks.

The event is also to raise awareness about the CANSA Pretoria Care centre in Rietfontein for people diagnosed with cancer.

She said most people did not know that CANSA has a facility that could provide care to them once they are diagnosed with cancer.

“Since CANSA is one of the oldest charity organisations in Pretoria, it is important for people to know about us and our services, she said.

“CANSA is celebrating its 90th birthday next year,” she added.

She said the care centre has a charity shop selling donated second-hand goods and a stoma clinic that provides stoma products to patients at affordable prices.

The centre also has the care home accommodating up to 24 patients for weekly care.

“The patients can stay in from Monday to Friday, receive meals three times a day and are transported to hospitals to have access to healthcare facilities and treatments.”

The centre also has a clinic and professional nurses that conduct, among others, breast examination, Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) tests for men, FotoFinders and cervical screening.

“Patients are welcome to make appointments at our clinic.”

CANSA uses money from fundraising events for research, education and support.
