GALLERY: Pretorians go barefoot to raise funds for charities

“There were three charities which benefited from our walk for awareness campaign, these are CANSA, Phyllis Robertson Home and Mozart Academy for Children with Special Needs.”

Pretorians in the North of Pretoria went barefoot to raise funds for three charities at the Kolonade Mall on Saturday.

Rekord spoke to organiser of the walk for awareness campaign Chris Batts, who is also the founder of sports against crime.

Batts said he was amazed by the community’s support and that artists who were at the event performed there for free.

“They went all out to show their care, for that we are truly grateful as all of this is for the benefit of the charitities. We also want to thank the mall for helping us with marketing the event,” said Batts.

“I just want to say to all of us that we must be humble. Today we did that by going barefoot to raise funds for a brilliant cause. Cancer can affect anyone, let us be there for the people who are broken and need support,” said Gardiner.

Phyllis Robertson Home manager Rina Bredenkamp said the campaign would go a long way in helping people with disabilities and people with cancer.

“I’m very happy about today, the money raised will be able to help us buy food, electricity, pay salaries and pay where there is a shortage,” she said.
