Local school gets vegetable garden, school shoes
Pupils of Lethabong Secondary School have benefited from a vegetable garden and donation of school shoes.
Pupils of Lethabong Secondary School in Soshanguve have benefited from a corporate social responsibility programme.
The school received 1 300 pairs of school shoes worth over R45 000 this week.
The money to purchase the shoes was raised through Shoes for Champs Campaign, a corporate social responsibility programme of SC Johnson in partnership with the department of education.
SC Johnson HR manager Thabiso Sehunoe said through the programme, the company sought to alleviate poverty in the community and bring about warmth to a great number of less privileged pupils, while restoring their dignity.
Pupils at the school were excited about the donation.
“The winter season is approaching and I only have one pair of shoes, which are torn. At times I am forced to wear takkies to school,” said Grade 12 pupil Benedict Rabothata.
“This brand new pair of shoes really came at the right time for me and I am very grateful,” said Rabothata.
The GDE and SC Johnson also donated garden equipment to the school.
“The company is committed to making a difference in the communities in which it operates. Its campaigns demonstrate its relentless efforts,” said Sehunoe.
“Through its Mr Muscle programme, there will soon be a state-of the-art science laboratory at the school,” he said.
The company built a vegetable tunnel at the school to educate pupils about the environment.
Principal Maphefo Malope saluted the partnership.
“We are excited to be partners with SC Johnson. The company has truly shown its commitment to pupils here and to the school. They are impoverished and this company’s support certainly benefits them,” said Malope.
“Lethabong Senior Secondary is a no-fee school. The pupils were happy to receive the shoes and Kiwi shoe polish,” she added.
Laura Moeletsi, a circuit two team manager in the Tshwane north district, encouraged the school and the company to forge ahead with their fruitful affiliation.
