New pupils, new principal at Laerskool Hermanstad

Laerskool Hermanstad welcomed 138 of the 150 new Grade 1 pupils on Wednesday when the new school year began.

The first day of the 2016 school year at Laerskool Hermanstad was filled with 138 grade 1 pupils that were ready to begin their education journey on Wednesday. On hand to welcome them were teachers and new school principal Jimmy Roberts.

“We wish all the best for the grade 1 pupils as they embark on this journey with us. We can assure them, their parents as well as the other pupils we will endeavour to give them our best; which is the best thing we can do for them,” said Roberts.

Laerskool Hermanstad expected to have about 150 grade 1 pupils in 2016. On the morning of 13 January, a number of late registrations were still being done across all grades. Roberts said in other grades, late registrations were mostly for those pupils who were coming from other schools.

Roberts hoped that 2016 would be a good year for teachers and pupils at Laerskool Hermanstad. “Last year the school attained a 99% rate and this year, the goal is to achieve 100%. We will also focus on strengthening all our sporting codes so that pupils excel across all the codes where they are given ample opportunity to participate,” he said.

On taking over the reins at the school, Roberts said his predecessors had made it easy for him to carry on from where they had left off. “I will be working with a team of highly skilled, passionate and loyal individuals. Our academic track record speaks for itself but one of my immediate goals is to upgrade our facilities. We will raise the bar for extramural activities,” he said.

As the new grade 1 pupils began their educational journey, Robberts said the teachers would do everything in their power to instill a sense of pride in every pupil in order they may always excel in whatever they do.
