Pilditch Stadium closed indefinitely

Pilditch Stadium will close down indefinitely until further notice after the hails storm of Monday.

Pilditch athletics stadium in Pretoria West will close down indefinitely to repair damage caused by a recent hailstorm that hit the city.

Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the first step was to assess the extent of the damage. A repair schedule would then be drawn up.

“It is only after this task is completed that it can be known when the stadium will be reopened,” he said.

Mashigo said extensive damage was done to the tartan track, field, grass embankments and long jump pits.

“The area underneath the pavilion and the athlete’s area were flooded and also suffered extensive damage,” he said.

Activities at the stadium would be suspended until further notice and no bookings would be accepted.

Mashigo said cost estimates still had to be made.

“At this stage, we are awaiting the completion of the assessment by contractors and only then will we have the quotations for the repairs,” he said.

Mashigo advised residents to use the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe stadium in the meantime. The stadium could be reached on 012-358-0881 or 012-358-0855.
