No disruptions during exams – TUT

Exams at the Tshwane University of Technology started as planned on Wednesday morning.

Exams went ahead as planned at the Tshwane University of Technology on Wednesday morning.

TUT spokesperson Willa de Ruyter said to Rekord on Wednesday morning, that all exams started as planned despite the unrest that has taken place at the university.

“There have been no interruptions at the campuses,” De Ruyter said.

She said more security has been deployed to exam centres to maintain order.

Exams will end on 9 December and the results published on 18 December.

After the protest about a month ago, against the increase to tuition fees for next year, some of the students were suspended or arrested.

This was followed by further unrest at TUT as students felt the university management was not taking demands seriously.

On Tuesday, a building at the university’s Soshanguve campus was burned down, allegedly by students.

De Ruyter said exams there had started a bit later than at the other campuses.
