Traffic lights back at vital crossing

People using the Maunde Street and Quagga road intersection are happy over the return of traffic lights.

The traffic lights at Quagga Road and Maunde Street intersection are finally working after having been out of order for months.

Nyaope addicts had stolen the traffic lights, causing extensive delays in replacing them.

South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) chairman Nagesh Chetty said the man initially commissioned to do the work also did not complete his contract.

After complaining about accidents at the intersection and the danger for pedestrians, road user have breathed a sigh of relief.

“We would like to thank the people who stood up to the Tshwane metro regarding this matter and for Rekord newspaper for always following through with the story until now that the lights are working,” said Chetty.

He said the past seven months without working traffic lights had been nightmare. It made life easy for hijackers and several fatal accidents had happened at the intersection.

Scores of people from Pretoria West, Laudium, Atteridgeville, Valhalla, Erasmia and surrounding areas use the road to and from work.

Motorist Pamela Fourie said she was happy that the traffic lights were back.

“We have struggled with traffic here for several months. Although it took the metro many months to repair the lights, we are grateful to them.” she said.
