SCHOOL: Young South Africans leading the way in Mental Maths

We are very proud of each of our students.

On 30 September 2018, 8 students from Abacus Maths Centurion qualified to represent South Africa at the prestigious GAJSMA (Global Association of Japanese Soroban and Mental Arithmetic) competition.

This competition was hosted by South Africa. South Africa’s best abacus students competed against more than 200 kids representing more than 10 countries, including some of the best mathematics countries in the world like India, Malaysia and Lebanon.

We are very proud of each of our students.

Their commitment and dedication finally paid off.

Some of these children practiced in excess of 20 hours a week to get their mathematics speed and accuracy up to international standards.

The Abacus Maths students representing SA won, 13 Super Championships, 17 Championships, 38 Gold, 53 Silver and 63 Bronze in their respective age groups.

Placing this achievement in international perspective, South Africa is rated 138th out of 140 countries in general school Mathematics performance (TIMMS Report 2011 & 2016).

We believe this training and exposure is exactly what young South Africans need to make an impact on the future.
