SCHOOL: SA Team wins category in the First Lego League Competition

"I love robotics and to interact with students across the world and see the way they think was fascinating”.

A Maragon Mooikloof learner and his teammates (from several other schools) recently came first for project presentation in the first-ever Lego League World Championship.

Every year, the league announces a challenge, based on a real-world scientific topic.

Each challenge has three parts: the robot game, project and core values.

Teams of up to ten children participate in the challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points.

This year, robotics, science and technology united as team South Africa competed on the global platform against 67 other teams.

The challenge was hydrodynamics, a project that could improve the way people find, transport, use or dispose of water.

“Team South Africa developed and created a robot that could reuse grey water in the kitchen”, Jonathan said.

“I was thrilled to attend this competition and compete on a global platform. I love robotics and to interact with students across the world and see the way they think was fascinating”.

“We are extremely proud of Jonathan and his teammates,” said Maragon Mooikloof principal Chris Zaayman.
