Boy (13) completes half marathon for charity

“I believe in them and my wish is to see them go very far with their running careers.”

Hundreds of city runners took part in the Reach for a Dream fun walk and run at the Jan Smut’s museum in Irene.

The fundraiser was organised and hosted by Charles Norman, founder and MD of Trail Adventure, and Shane Gouldie to help NGOs that needed help the most.

“We chose to assist Reach for a Dream after seeing the work they do, which requires lots of support, especially financially,” he said.

Reach for a Dream helps children with life-threatening illnesses to fulfil their dreams. For 25 years, the Reach For A Dream Foundation has brought hope, joy and healing to countless South African children.

The fun walk and run attracted hundreds of runners for the 5km, 10km, 15km and 21km races.

One such runner was Thato Mogotsi (13) from Kagiso, West Rand.

Mogotsi, who ran 21km, said: “My coach Adam Magoro pushed me hard and gave me and the team the necessary advice and support to complete the race.

“Though it was hard, I managed to push myself to pull through.”

Magoro, a runner himself, said the 21km was “not child’s play but I believe Mogotsi and his teammates were ready for the run”.

“Over the years, they have shown that they can run and outrun even some of the most experienced runners. I believe in them and my wish is to see them go very far with their running careers,” he said.
