Joy at children’s home with 67 minutes for Mandela

Centurion was filled with Jubilee this Friday 17th, when the SAPS, SASSA and members of the public came in numbers to give blankets, renovate and feed children in commemorating 67 minutes for Mandela.

Dimphonyane Tsa Lapeng children’s home in Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion were jubilant on Friday when police and SA social security agency staff joined residents to donate blankets, renovate the home and treated the children with a meal, commemorating 67 minutes for Mandela.

The message for the day was ‘by helping others we’re helping each other’.

Master of ceremonies Lt General CN Mbekela welcomed everyone and pastor Jonas Masutla opened the occasion with a prayer. Residents, ward councillors and children then shared their own version of what Mandela Day meant to them.

Pretoria Central Cluster commander Major General DT Mothombeni said he would like residents to know that the police will always lend a helping hand. He also added that South Africans should help each other to build better communities.

Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng children’s home is home to 35 children between the ages of six months and 24 years. The home is not funded by any organisation or corporate which leaves the centre with a huge financial burden to care for 35 children.
