First market a big hit
Residents turn up in great numbers for first Stall night market of the year.
Centurions came out in force for the first Stall night market of the year on Thursday. It is hosted on the last Thursday of every month from 17:00 to 21:00 at the Southdowns shopping centre in Irene.
The Stall provides young entrepreneurs with an opportunity to exhibit their creations. On offer were Mexican street food, fresh artisanal breads, cheeses, jewellery, wine and clothing.
Patrons enjoyed the wide assortment to choose from, while supporting budding local businesses.
“This market is very exclusive. We can only fit in between 25 and 27 vendors at each market. So we really pride ourselves on having the best of the best on offer. The vendors have a real passion for what they sell and put in huge efforts to present their stands and show off the quality of their products,” said Gareth Christie, creator of the Stall market.
On the night Ivan Roux, a top 10 finalist in the 2014 Idols competition, performed to the delight of the crowd. A light drizzle nearly brought an end to proceedings, but the rain held up, giving up-and-coming band Sea of Green the opportunity to perform before the end of the evening.
New vendors like Amigo’s Street Kitchen, Knead bakery and Doppio Zero were hits with the patrons, as were long time vendors Corrado’s and Isabella’s.
The next market is scheduled for 26 February. According to Christie, Sea of Green could very well perform their full set at the next market.
