Centurion Academy students make a difference

Around 90 residents gathered at the Loftus Versfeld on Friday for Miracle Ears food and wine pairing dinner in support of the Beautiful Sound project to provide costly cochlear implants to hearing impaired people.

With the aim of making a difference to the lives of deaf people, students of the Centurion Academy organised the Miracle Ears food and wine pairing dinner at Loftus Versfeld in Sunnyside on Friday.

Through the event, attended by around 90 people from all over Pretoria, the second year students raised money to support the Beautiful Noise project, as part of their management studies.

The money raised from the event will be donated to the Beautiful Noise project which helps to make the dreams of the deaf to hear, a reality through cochlear mplants at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

A single implant cost up to R250 000.

The cochlear is an electronic device which is implanted into the inner ear and enables a hearing impaired person to hear and perceive sound.

Event coordinator Liezl de Reuck, said organising the event was a wonderful experience.

“We learned how to work with other people, make friends and meet new people,” De Reuck said.
