Three armed suspects arrested at shopping centre
Police arrested three armed suspects after an illegal firearm and a suspected stolen vehicle were found in Midrand on Tuesday.
Three armed men were arrested in connection with theft in Midrand on Tuesday, police said.
Police spokesperson Captain Kym Cloete said officers were on patrol at San Ridge Square at 11:00 when they noticed a car trying to reverse out of the parking lot. “Police noticed strange moves and blocked the suspects’ vehicle. When asked what they were doing, they claimed they were trying to park to go shopping,” Cloete said.
Police instructed the suspects to get out of the car.
“They were searched but nothing illegal was found on them. Police searched the vehicle and found a firearm under the back seat. Police also noted that the vehicle had false number plates,” said Cloete.
It is alleged that the suspects’ car was reported as stolen in Kempton Park. “Police are investigating to ascertain if the suspects could be linked to other crimes. The suspects are detained on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and possibly stolen vehicle,” Cloete said.
