CBD protests result in suspension of bus operations

A Re Yeng buses operating along the Mamelodi route will remain running for as long as there are no threats or disruptions.

After several days of protests in and around the Pretoria CBD, roads and transport MMC councillor Sheila Senkubuge has suspended both Tshwane bus service and A Re Yeng operations with immediate effect.

“In light of the unpredictable and unsafe atmosphere, I have resolved to withdraw the buses in the interest of safeguarding municipal assets, bus drivers and most importantly, commuters,” says Senkubuge.

A Re Yeng buses operating along the Mamelodi route will remain running for as long as there are no threats or disruptions.

“The current environment on this lane remains conducive to render Tshwane Rapid Transport  (TRT) services to our commuters, especially during peak hours,” Senkubuge explained.

Meanwhile, the MMC has structured a meeting with the leadership of the taxi industry within Tshwane metropolitan municipality.  The discussions, arranged for this afternoon, will be centred on ensuring a safer climate for public transportation.

“These discussions will enable the City and the taxi leadership to map a way forward towards restoring smooth relations that have been enjoyed by all public transport stakeholders in the city,” Senkubuge concluded.
