#DrosRape pickets to disrupt traffic

Motorists warned to use alternative routes.

Pickets outside the alleged Dros rapist’s appearance at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning will most likely disrupt traffic, Tshwane metro police warned.

Nicolas Ninow will be appearing for the third time for the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl at a Dros in Silverton in September.

The picket was expected to kick off at 08:00 in Francis Baard Street, as the accused in the Dros child rape case makes his third court appearance.

Protesters from various organisations would arrive by bus from different provinces, said TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

“Their buses will be parked at the old Putco Depot between Struben and Bloed Street near Marabastad.”

Francis Baard Street, between Sophie de Bruyn and Bosman Street, would be completely closed for traffic from 08:00 until 15:00.

“Church Square will also be monitored for possible gatherings,” he said.

He advised motorists to use alternative routes.

Mahamba said Tshwane metro police and SAPS officers would be deployed to monitor the pickets.

*Though the law prohibits identifying someone accused of a sexual offence before this individual has pleaded to the charge, Caxton made an editorial decision to name Ninow following the circumstances around his previous appearance on 2 October.
