Police flying squad on mission to eradicate drugs in Pta

Heroin, CAT, dagga and Mira were some of the drugs that were seized with a street value exceeding R100 000.

Members of the police flying squad and the canine unit had a busy few days, making several arrests for drugs and illegal firearms in various parts of Pretoria.

Flying squad spokesperson Constable Buhle Rahatji said during one of the patrols, police recovered an unlicensed firearm with live ammunition and a hijacked motor vehicle.

“On Sunday, our members were conducting patrol duties around the Pretoria area which led to the arrest of three suspects in Mamelodi and another one in Eersterust for possession of drugs (CAT). The value of the drugs was estimated to be about R1 500,” she said.

Rahatji said last week four people were arrested for possession of dagga and heroin in the Moot.

“On DF Malan Drive in the Pretoria CBD, another suspect was arrested for an unlicensed firearm, a 9mm Star pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition.

“Another breakthrough happened on Stormvoël Road off-ramp from the N1 highway, where two men were caught with bags of drugs.”

Rahatji said members attached to the squad were driving on N1 on Friday afternoon when they spotted a suspicious-looking silver Nissan Xtrail with two occupants inside.

“They stopped the vehicle in Stormvoël Road and recovered bags full of drugs called Mira, valued at R95 000.”

Two suspects were arrested.
