UPDATE: City manager denies ‘unlawful’ tender allegations

City manager says he will make documents public that will prove his innocence.

The Tshwane city manager has denied claims that he had unlawfully awarded a R12-billion infrastructure contract at a press conference today.

This follows allegations by Gauteng ANC spokesperson Tasneem Motara that city manager Moeketsi Mosola awarded a tender to engineering consultancy firm Ariya Project Managers (Glad Africa) without following proper procedures.

Motara said Mosola should be suspended and a forensic investigation into the awarding of the tender instituted.

Mosola said he will have documents, relating to the awarding of the tender, made available to the public.

“The process followed was in compliance with the legislative prescripts governing the city of Tshwane’s supply chain management as well as the municipal finance management act.”

According to the Sunday Times newspaper, Glad Africa had already pocketed R250-million in consultancy fees from the city’s roads and transport division since it was appointed in November.

The opposition party said a special investigative unit will probe the matter.
